Our Welding Program prepares students with the skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience needed for successful careers in the welding industry.
Students learn in a shop setting, working with real equipment and projects while building a strong foundation in safe, professional welding practices.
WHAT WE OFFER
Students build the knowledge, precision, and safe work habits needed to begin a career as a combination welder.
PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
Develop focus, fine motor skills, and the ability to follow directions and work independently or as part of a team.
HANDS-ON WELDING
Safely operate power sources and gas equipment while practicing SMAW (Stick) and GMAW (MIG) welds on carbon steel in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Welding is detail-oriented work. Students build the focus, physical readiness, and academic foundation needed to work safely and accurately.
FINE MOTOR SKILLS
Students use strong hand-eye coordination and fine-motor control to create precise welds, even in a busy shop environment. Focus, organization, note-taking, and attention to detail are essential.
PHYSICAL READINESS
Students practice common job movements such as lifting and carrying up to 35–55 pounds, squatting, kneeling, bending, and standing for extended periods while following workplace safety practices.
MATH & READING
Students use math with fractions, decimals, ratios, and geometry, plus technical reading skills to understand vocabulary, cause-and-effect, and multi-step instructions.
CAREER-READY SKILLS
Along with welding skills, students practice the professional habits employers value: thoughtful problem-solving, safety, teamwork, responsibility, and quality work.
REASONING & PROBLEM-SOLVING
- Follow guidelines to arrange work in the proper order.
- Recognize important information and potential problems.
- Develop solutions and weigh the benefits of possible actions.
- Follow verbal and written directions.
MANAGING WORK
- Monitor progress and learning.
